Who We Are

The John Milton Freedom Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to advancing press freedom by empowering independent journalists. Inspired by the philosophies first advanced by the 17th-century English scholar John Milton, the Foundation is committed to fortifying the bedrock of democracy by financially supporting independent journalists.

Our Vision

The Foundation focuses on supporting independent journalists who are already successfully utilizing X to distribute their content. We believe that a modest monthly fellowship of $10,000 along with other support can help content creators who have between 200,000 and 2,000,000 followers exponentially expand their reach and impact.

Our initial fourteen fellows had more than ten million followers with more than a billion monthly post impressions. Together their reach exceeds that of most mainstream media outlets. We believe that a modest investment could enable these independent journalists to increase their reach by more than 10X in less than a year.

We will begin accepting applications for our 2026 fellowship class starting in December 2025.
