Shiree Sanchez, Director
Shiree, Director at the John Milton Freedom Foundation, has a rich background in politics and real estate. Her journey includes roles as Assistant Director of the Republican Party of Texas, Executive Director of the RNC Hispanic Auxiliary, and Special Assistant to the President of the United States. Now leading a real estate-focused family office in Austin, Shiree integrates her political acumen and leadership skills to champion the cause of freedom of the press. Her involvement in the foundation underscores her dedication to nurturing a robust and independent journalistic landscape.
Mark Karaffa, Director
Mark, a healthcare executive and seasoned nonprofit leader, serves as a Director of the John Milton Freedom Foundation. His experience includes significant roles with the YMCA and United Way, coupled with active participation in Republican politics as the former Regional Director for the Texas Association of Business and Chambers of Commerce. Mark’s commitment to the foundation is rooted in his belief in the vital role of independent journalism in maintaining the health of our democracy. He applies his extensive nonprofit experience to support and strengthen the foundation’s mission of safeguarding press freedom.
Erin Muse, Co-Founder & Fellowship Intern
Erin’s journey with the foundation commenced with her innovative proposal to establish fellowships for independent journalists. As a distinguished honors student in her senior year, she actively participates in the marching band and excels on the lacrosse team. In her official capacity, Erin serves as an intern and board observer at the fellowship, facilitating communication between the foundation and its fellows.
